William McNeil Oliver’s Memorial
Service, Sacrifice & Rediscovery
William McNeil Oliver, a young member and leader of O-Wash-To-Nong, was killed in action in Germany on December 1, 1944. In 1945, his C.A.R. Society dedicated a bronze memorial in his honor.
More than eighty years later, the marker — having settled beneath the turf at Oakwood Cemetery — was rediscovered in 2026. Its recovery has renewed a promise made by an earlier generation: William will be remembered.
